Description

This three-day, hands-on course gives you the skills to deliver virtual desktops and applications through a single virtual desktop infrastructure platform. This course builds your skills in configuring and managing VMware Horizon® 8 through a combination of lecture and hands-on labs. You learn how to configure and deploy pools of virtual machines and how to provide a customized desktop environment to end-users.

  • Use VMware vSphere® to create VMs to be used as desktops for Horizon
  • Create and optimize Windows VMs to create Horizon desktops

  • Configure and manage the VMware Horizon® Client™ systems and connect the client to a VMware Horizon desktop
  • Configure, manage, and entitle desktop pools of full VMs
  • Configure, manage, and entitle pools of instant-clone desktops

Prerequisites

  • Know how to use VMware vSphere® Web Client to view the state of virtual machines, datastores, and networks
  • Know how to open a virtual machine console on VMware vCenter Server® and access the guest operating system
  • Microsoft Windows system administration experience

  • Lesson 2: Convert customer requirements to use-case attributes

Module 4: vSphere for Horizon 8

  • Lesson 1: Explain basic virtualization concepts
  • Lesson 2: Use VMware vSphere® Client™ to access your vCenter Server system and VMware ESXi™ hosts
  • Lesson 3: Create, provision, and remove a virtual machine

Module 5:  VMware Horizon Desktops

  • Lesson 1: Create a Windows and a Linux virtual machine using vSphere
  • Lesson 2: Optimize and prepare Windows and Linux virtual machines to set up Horizon desktop VMs

Module 6:  VMware Horizon Agents

  • Lesson 1: Outline the configuration choices when installing Horizon Agent on Windows and Linux virtual machines
  • Lesson 2: Create a gold master for Windows Horizon desktops

Module 7:  VMware Horizon Pools

  • Lesson 1: Identify the steps to set up a template for desktop pool deployment
  • Lesson 2: List the steps to add desktops to the VMware Horizon® Connection Server™ inventory
  • Lesson 3: Compare dedicated-assignment and floating-assignment pools
  • Lesson 4: Outline the steps to create an automated pool
  • Lesson 5: Define user entitlement
  • Lesson 6: Explain the hierarchy of global, pool-level, and user-level policies

Module 8: VMware Horizon Client Options

  • Lesson 1: Describe the different clients and their benefits
  • Lesson 2: Access Horizon desktop using various Horizon clients and HTML
  • Lesson 3: Configure integrated printing, USB redirection, and the shared folders option
  • Lesson 4: Configure session collaboration and media optimization for Microsoft Teams

Module 9: Creating and Managing Instant-Clone Desktop Pools

  • Lesson 1: List the advantages of instant clones
  • Lesson 2: Explain the provisioning technology used for instant clone desktop pools
  • Lesson 3: Set up an automated pool of instant clones
  • Lesson 4: Push updated images to instant clone desktop pools

Module 10: Creating RDS Desktop and Application Pools

  • Lesson 1: Explain the difference between an RDS desktop pool and an automated pool
  • Lesson 2: Compare and contrast an RDS session host pool, a farm, and an application pool
  • Lesson 3: Create an RDS desktop pool and an application pool
  • Lesson 4: Access RDS desktops and application from Horizon Client
  • Lesson 5: Use the instant clone technology to automate the build-out of RDSH farms
  • Lesson 6: Configure load-balancing for RDSHs on a farm

Module 11: Monitoring VMware Horizon

  • Lesson 1: Monitor the status of the Horizon components using the Horizon Administrator console dashboard
  • Lesson 2: Monitor desktop sessions using the HelpDesk tool

  • This course prepares you to the VMware Certified Professional – Desktop and Mobility 2020 (VCP-DTM 20202) exam. If you wish to take this exam, please contact our secretariat who will let you know the cost of the exam and will take care of all the necessary administrative procedures for you.
